This Guy Is A Badass.

While researching the story of the "Cigar Marine", Gunny Nick Popaditch, I came across a posting board called the Free Republic that had many comments about what happened. Here are some of the reactions I found.

- Webmaster

"My friends and my Marines are still there, still fighting," he said softly. "Any Marine in their right mind would want to be right there with them. All I've really lost is about 10 degrees of peripheral vision, and I'll be OK without that. I'm ready to be with my Marines again."

Where do we get such men as these?

Semper Fi !

From a different gene pool than Kerry's.
From a different species than Kerry!
Kerry isn't fit to shine his shoes.
Kerry isn't fit to breathe the same air as this man.
I wonder if he'll get a $1 million book deal like Jessica Lynch.
Salute Cigar Guy! Wow.

Nick Popadich or in Serbian Nikola Popadic is definitely Serbian heritage.

Good luck Nick hope that you enjoying your family and life.

We should all sleep more soundly at night knowing that men like this are out there looking out for us.

Thank you, Gunny!

Another marine hit in the head by an RPG.. and survives. HOOOH-RAAAA! (BTW... in no way shape or form does John F'n Kerry even deserve to talk to these guys, much less command them!!)
Semper Fi!!
This old soldier is standing at attention with the sharpest salute I know how to give
tough mutha ping!
We know how to pick'em! What a rep for our forces. Best of everything to him and his family and to his friends still in Iraq!!
Damn...the real Die Hard
That made me cry. God bless America.

"When they started treating me, I knew I was safe, and I knew my family would never see a picture of me hanging from a train trestle somewhere,"

Verklempt.

Semper Fi, the few, the proud, the MARINES!

Wow! What a man.
This is one former Naval Officer that wouldn't hesitate to salute the Gunny first.
Quick, somebody offer this Marine a job as a Drill Instructor.
Damn straight!
I know an Admiral that might be able to find a place on his staff.
Damn, he takes an RPG basically to the face, and merely gets knocked about a bit and loses one eye, but is still in one piece.

Good to hear he's gonna be okay.

This guy is a badass.

No kidding. What an American!

There were many salutes and many prayers for Popaditch when news of his wounds hit Free Republic here just a few short weeks ago. A great man with a great story, the Corps needs to get him out in front of the public.
Gotta love this guy. Thank God for our service people.
I second your motion. Thank you Sgt. Popaditch.
As I was reading the story, I was saying...well, maybe he'll at least be
able to make that outlaw eye-patch thing work for him.

That photo proved it!

God Bless the USMC!
Whoopie.. how nice to see this ... and seeing CEEGAR GUY with a big smile on his face.

Hope he / family see this thread & keep us posted.

I've been praying for this fella since I heard he was attacked and lost an eye. What spirit! What fortitude! What an American!

I'm crying.....so proud......I wish he were my son (I have daughters) so I could love on him and dote on him.....

Ya know? I hope Kerry makes the mistake of going and seeing our guys in the military.....I hope they tell him exactly how they feel about him...and I hope all the press is there to record it!

It is great to hear that Cee-gar Man is doing so great!

I agree with whoever said it- he really made that patch work. LOL! Total badass.

And- I agree with whoever said Kerry is not fit to breathe the same air as men such as these. Kerry should feel embarrassed for even thinking he is in their league, but I guess to feel embarrassed one would have to have a conscience.

Thank God for our heros!

"My friends and my Marines are still there, still fighting," he said softly. "Any Marine in their right mind would want to be right there with them. All I've really lost is about 10 degrees of peripheral vision, and I'll be OK without that. I'm ready to be with my Marines again."

Wow...............WOW!

Our military guys are absolutely awesome!

Where do we get such men as these?

They come from all across this great land. They love their country REGARDLESS of what the see and hear on TV! They know the PRICE of FREEDOM is paid in blood. sweat, and tears, and they are willing to pay it.

The LEFT, on the other hand, thinks that FREEDOM and liberty is their right to DEMAND. Earning it is NOT expected.

Ooorah Gunny!

Semper Fi.

ain't nothing like the smell of a soldier (well, ok, marine) whose been in the field for a month, no showers, only brushed his teeth last week and smokes cigars. Hooooweee, any misquito near these guys just keels over. Reminds me of the good old days.

Great Job Marine, We're proud of ya!!

Whoopie.. how nice to see this ... and seeing CEEGAR GUY with a big smile on his face.

Amen to that!

A warrior.

This Army Major salutes him!

The event that brought him home in time for little league was life changing, but when he speaks of it, he is humble and quick to change the tide of the conversation to the Marines he met recently, or to the support he has received from friends and strangers alike, rather than be hailed as a hero himself.

Wow. Great attitude this marine has.

Welcome home Hero! God Bless you and your loving family...God Bless our troops!

"When I got hit, I saw a flash of light and then everything went black. All I could hear was fuzz and static," he recalled, pausing to clap as his son's team brought in another runner, putting them ahead by five runs. "

Blinded, momentarily deaf and not yet feeling pain, Popaditch groped his way around the inside of his tank until he located Chambers.

"This is the funny part of the story. I grabbed him and screamed, 'Chambers, we have to get the tanks out of here,' and 'Chambers, you're going to have to call for a medevac.' He didn't answer me, so I shook him and screamed it three or four more times, until I realized he'd probably answered me but I couldn't hear him."

As the tank started moving he could faintly hear Chambers on the radio....

"I heard him hollering at both drivers, just doing what tank commanders do naturally," he said, admiration in his voice.

Thank you, and God bless you, Gunnery Sgt. Nick - and your family!

When we picked this Marine as ours in the Situation Room..we didn't realize we had picked such a giant as this....

God Bless our Ceegar Man! I salute the Marines!

Thank you for the ping to this post. I wasn't aware of Cee-gar Man. What a brave Marine and a real credit to the US. makes my heart swell, it does!

May God continue to bless him and his family abundantly - as well as *ALL* of our brave men and women in uniform, past and present.

Thanks so much for your sum up of the day we met our CeeGar Guy. Excellent job. What a time it was!

Nick and family are a major part of my Heroes in American History. I can't thank them enough for setting examples I can show my children and friends and say "Folks THIS IS WHAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT!".

What a wonderful guy, no whining or complaining, just happy to be alive. And I'm so glad he is!!
This just goes to show that you can't keep a good man down! SEMPER FI GUNNY! Keep on charging!

And by the way

TANKS & AMTRACKS for your service!

I'm not convinced we still deserve men such as this....

I'm also not sure we won't betray them....as we did before.

Semper Fi

If we betray our troops again, I wonder if America deserves to be free.
He may not get a million dollar deal like Jessica, but he'll get a cold drink and a hot steak from me !
Gunny Pop earned the respect. Loved your rendition of events in Las Vegas!

not my rendition...it hit our base paper today and I searched for it online so I could post it.

I love hearing the good things the public does to honor our troops. They don't get paid much in money but being able to stand tall in their uniform and command that kind of respect is priceless.

What a Marine!

God Bless him and his family!!

and very cool those other 200 Marines were honored.

Misty eyed thank you for sharing this!...God bless Ceegar Man and those who honored our military and showered them with gratitude.
Thanks DC for the ping. Mudpuppy, I have tears of joy. How wonderful. Thanks! That was a great story!

Don King may have a couple of skeletons in his closet, but he's always acknowledged the freedom he enjoys and where it came from. It takes some guts for a guy in his position to endorse a republican, too.
